Just picked up this title and am officially addicted. I’ve always been a fan of the Castlevania series and have been loving the GBA and DS iterations. Ecclesia changes the formula a little bit, but not in ways that are damaging. This version is much more difficult then Portrait of Ruin and the GBA ‘vanias. Makes the old school gamer in me smile.
I’ve only played a couple hours and will be sure to post my thoughts as the game progresses.
Glyph is my current addiction. I picked up this game for $1.99 on the App Store a few days ago due to it being on sale and have been sneaking in games whenever I’ve had a few seconds.
At it’s core Glyph is basically a match three game like Bejeweled with a few twists. In the main quest mode you are making your way through a series of stages to unlock glyphs for a reason that isn’t yet apparent. Each level differs in shape and size, but your goals are the same. Tap on sets of 3 same coloured gems or more to remove them. Each set that you remove destroys a layer of stone that is under it with your main goal being the unveiling of a hidden glyph that occupies a part of the level. That’s it, that’s all, but it is so deviously addicting that I cannot put it down!
As you progress through the 100ish levels in the main game, the gameplay gets mixed up to a degree through the use of special gems that you both gain and power-up through your matches. There are gems that will clear the board, turn all the gems to one colour and blow out lines of useless gems. Every 5 levels a simon-esque mini-game pops up to break the tension that has built up and does it’s job nicely.
Glyph is such a well polished addictive little title that I have no problems recommending it to anyone, casual or not. Get it while it’s on sale for $1.99.
This quickie-review is of version 1.00 of Glyph that was purchased from the App Store for $1.99.
When Apple announced that the iPhone and iPod Touch would be receiving a firmware update adding in the functionality of a whole self contained App Store I didn’t think it would be as big as it turned out to be. ie. It’s been huge.
As of this morning there are 1573 games listed on the App Store ranging from FREE to $9.99. Of course the vast majority of these games are crap, but there have been enough gems where iPhone gaming is filling in all the free time I have throughout the day. I would of never believed it, but there it is. Hell, I even started a podcast to talk about iPhone Games since there were so damn awesome. I mean what is cooler then the ability to download a game wherever you are whenever you feel like it?
I plan on using this blog to post some mini-reviews of iPhone titles that I’ve been digging. I know that I run Nukoda.com as well, but some of these games are just small time wasters that don’t warrant a full review on a gaming blog. I’ll be sure to link to the full reviews I do post on Nukoda and probably link to my mini-reviews in the shownotes for the Touch of Gaming podcast.
It’s an exciting time to be a gamer with so many viable consoles and portables. There certainly are fun times to be had by all no matter what types of games you like, or where you choose to play them.
So welcome to my new blog. I shut down my old one over at dasme.org (not linked as it doesn’t currently exist) a while back and meant to get this site running right after, obviously that didn’t happen.
This will be a place to collect my thoughts, talk about the games I’m playing, and go on about how freaking awesome my kids are.
If you’ve found this place you must know me personally so welcome. If you don’t feel free to checkout all the sites and podcasts that I run that are linked in the top about section.
Thanks for dropping by to read my words, hope they don’t bore you too much.
